Asked & Answered: What Are People Asking Us About?

Find out answers to questions you might have.

We’ve compiled a few commonly-asked questions along with our responses to help customers gain a better understanding of MapItFast and SprayLogger.

Why is my MapItFast app showing “Not Logged In” when I didn’t log out?

Make sure you are not using the same username and password as other people.  A MapItFast user license does not allow for simultaneous usage, so if another user recently logged in with the same username and password, your device was logged out. Setting up one user license per device will avoid the issue of a device getting unexpectedly logged out of MapItFast.

Why don’t I see my SprayLogger box listed in the SprayLogger menu on my app?

Make sure your SprayLogger unit is paired with your device via Bluetooth. If you have a new mobile device or you are connecting to a SprayLogger box for the first time, you may still need to pair the device via Bluetooth. This is done by going to Connections in your device settings menu (not the MapitFast app). Make sure Bluetooth is turned on, then search for available devices. When your device detects the SprayLogger box, you can select it to pair the device. Once the box is paired, you can return to MapItFast and the box should now show up in the SprayLogger dropdown menu.

How can I set a trigger on my form so the icon on the map changes when a value in the form is changed?

The Active Map Trigger feature works well with work order forms such as spray applications and repair tickets to give a visual, real-time status update of a MapItFast project. For example, a user could fill out a form with an Active Map Trigger to indicate an open work ticket, which a user in the field can edit and mark “complete” once the job is finished. The map trigger will automatically use the status of that form to change the color of the associated point, line or icon to show the current status of the work ticket.

What are Default Project Permissions in MapItFast?

When users create a new project, it’s not automatically visible to others until an administrator changes permissions for that project. This can become a hassle if users are creating projects on a daily basis and the administrator isn’t able to update the permissions right away. To help with this, we’ve set up the Default Permissions option in the MapItFast website. This page is located under the Users button and is only visible to account administrators.

To set default permissions, simply click “Add New” and choose the group or user to which to apply the settings. Setting the permissions for a group will make projects created by anyone in the group visible to others in the group and setting the permissions for a user will make any projects created by that user visible to the users specified in the default permission settings.

Will my SprayLogger or SnapMapper work with an iPhone?

Not at this time. We hope that this will be a possibility in the future, however our data logger hardware is currently only compatible with Android devices.

June 24-30 is National Mosquito Awareness Week

Let’s give a shout out to all of the mosquito control workers in honor of Mosquito Control Awareness Week (June 24-30) for their important work in mosquito protection.

Do you know the best ways to keep mosquitoes away?

The 3 Ds of Mosquito Protection:

  1. Drain – mosquitoes require water to breed.  Make sure you empty any containers that have standing water and dispose of tires which can breed thousands of mosquitoes.
  2. Dress – wearing light colored loose fitting clothes can help keep mosquitoes away and prevent bites.  If you can, wear pants and long sleeve shirts.
  3. Defend – Use mosquito repellent that contains one or more of the repellents approved by the Environmental Protection Agency such as DEET, or Oil of lemon eucalyptus.

Easy Mapping and Spraying: Stand Out From the Competition

Kyle White, a forestry consultant in land management at Acacia Forest Products, has been an AgTerra customer using SprayLogger and MapItFast for the past two years.  His company does weed control spraying for large landowners in Satsuma, Alabama.

One particular weed in this area is an invasive species called Cogon Grass.  It is a thick, aggressive grass that spreads rapidly in the pine plantations of Alabama.  According to he US Department of Agriculture, Cogon Grass is on the Federal list of noxious weeds and is designated as the world’s seventh worst weed.  It can destroy wildlife habitat and be damaging to the forest, pastures, and desirable vegetation.

Kyle said using MapItFast and SprayLogger makes paperwork a breeze and takes any guess work out of chemical application.  His customers are really happy with his services.

“The automated reports and maps are appealing to clients and have helped me land a couple of new contracts this year,” he said.  “This sets me apart from my competition.”

Kyle emphasized that the software is easy to use for all levels.  He has people of different ages and technology skill levels on his crew and all of them were able to learn it quickly.

He also really appreciates the level of customer service he receives from AgTerra.

Kyle explains, “if I have a problem, the customer service is second to none.  I have enjoyed working with AgTerra and look forward to growing my business with theirs.”

City of Casper:

Pen and Paper Free for Seven Months (and Counting)

 Casper

Before April of this year, Jim Gerhart and his weed and pest department at the City of Casper, Wyoming, were using paper forms to track their spray applications. “We were looking for a solution that would ease the amount of paperwork that the spray crews had to fill out and the end of the day,” he recalls.
The initial system setup and testing required Gerhart to work closely with our SprayLogger experts to make sure his equipment was ready for the season. “AgTerra has been great in terms of customer support and handling questions through phone or email,” he said.
Utilizing both SprayLogger E3 and SprayLogger Backpack units, Gerhart was able to improve efficiency and accuracy of spray jobs completed across the city in the 2017 spray season. In the peak of the spray season, Gerhart had five applicators using the SprayLogger system. He also shared a SprayLogger unit with an employee in the city’s athletic department for spray applications on the athletic fields. “It was a little bit of a learning curve for him to get used to the equipment,” said Gerhart, “but he caught on quick.”

The ability to report and export spray data made the system a valuable tool for sharing spray job information across departments. Not only was Gerhart able to replace pen and paper for spray job reports; the data he collected could also be exported to shapefile format for use in the city’s GIS system.
Looking to the future, Gerhart feels that the MapItFast and SprayLogger products would be beneficial in other departments, including the golf course, cemetery, wastewater and Casper Public Utilities divisions. “If budgets improve,” he says, “I would like to expand our system to allow automatic boom selection by adding more ports to our control boxes. I would also like to outfit more sprayers with the product.”

City of Sheridan Effectively Targets Mosquitoes
with MapItFast and SprayLogger
E3
In the spring of 2016, Chad Franklin with the City of Sheridan’s recreation department contacted AgTerra to see how their products could help him better manage the city’s mosquito program. After a tour of AgTerra’s facility and a demonstration of their products, Franklin made the decision to purchase an AgTerra SprayLogger and MapItFast system with the intent of mapping and reporting from his mosquito fogger truck.  But, the results have exceeded expectations.
“When I first came across the SprayLogger and MapItFast products from AgTerra, I knew that I had found what I was looking for to accurately and effectively track and record the information I needed.” – Chad Franklin

SprayLogger Update:
Multi-Flow Now Available on E3 Units
search

The initial release of the SprayLogger E3 boasted the unit’s ability to read multiple booms simultaneously.  Now, AgTerra has taken the E3 one step further by enabling the unit to read, record and map up to three flow sensors simultaneously!

Applicators using dedicated chemical tanks or those with carrier streams that require individual recording from each tank will benefit greatly from this new feature. Additionally, the update will make it easier than ever to track spray on vehicles that do both nozzle and hose reel spraying.  A large flow sensor can be used to record the nozzle spray while the small flow sensor records hose reel work.  The E3 can now track both at the same time – no re-calibration needed!
For more information on how to set up your multi-port SprayLogger E3 unit with the new settings or upgrade your single port box, call AgTerra today at (307) 673-1050 or email us at solutions@agterra.com.
